John Howard Griffin and Black Like Me John Howard Griffin was a journalist and a specialist on race issues. After publication, he became a leading advocate in the Civil Rights Movement and did much to promote awareness of the racial situations and pass legislature. He was middle aged and living in Mansfield, Texas at the time of publication in 1960. His desire to know if Southern whites were racist against the Negro population of the Deep South, or if they really judged people based on the individual's personality as they said they prompted him to cross the color line and write Black Like Me. Since communication between the white and African American races did not exist, neither race really knew what it was like for the other. Due to this, Griffin felt the only way to know the truth was to become a black man and travel through the South. Is Life Fair? Essay
Is life fair? This is a question which has always been asked by people from all walks of life since time immemorial. It was always asked by people who have less in life. For people from Africa ââ¬â they who have always been featured in international magazines looking like skeletons wrapped in desiccated skin, life certainly is unfair. They are the people who cannot even eat one whole nutritious meal in one week. They only exist because of the kindness of others. If help comes, then they can eat; if none arrives, they have to forgo eating and patiently wait for another day. They could not even afford to wrap themselves in the flimsiest garment to protect their bodies from the elements. When they get sick ââ¬â which happens very often because of their state of deprivation ââ¬â they cannot get their hands on the simplest medicine because none is available to them. They are supposed to be our brothers and sisters in God who were given free will just like ours. However, in their situation, one could not help asking the question: Are they in any position to exercise their free will? The answer is undoubtedly a resounding NO! How could they when they could not even lift a finger to defend themselves from biting insects? They who have been photographed in an apparently weakened state being watched by waiting vultures preparing to eat their remains as soon as they close their eyes in dying surrender? These unfortunate people of Africa could not be heard asking if life is fair because even their voices have already been swallowed by poverty and deprivation. In spite of their silence, however, nobody can deny that life has indeed been very unfair for these ill-fated, luckless, forgotten children of God. The situation in Africa is by all means extreme. One does not need to cite such severe cases nor go to far-off Africa, however, just to establish that life has never, or could never be fair. There are numerous examples of lifeââ¬â¢s unfairness right here in the country. Even in America, the unequal distribution of wealth is very evident. There are parents who could barely send their children to school because of poverty. There are high school graduates (in fact majority of them) who choose not to proceed to college because they would rather work and help support their families. Some defenders of the American way of life would often flaunt that this is because jobs are readily available in America. This is merely a smoke screen, however. Who would not aspire to have a college degree if given the opportunity? It is not unknown to everybody that the high-paying jobs are only available to college graduates and holders of master or doctoral degrees. As a result, these people enjoy more of lifeââ¬â¢s blessings than their fellow citizens who work after high school. Of course, there are student loans available to those who qualify. Unfortunately, this program is not readily available to everybody, aside from the fact that the loan has to be paid with interest some years after graduation. Meanwhile, the family members are already reeling from the effects of poverty. So instead of availing of these student loans and go to college, young people choose to work instead. In the meantime, rich kids go to college, work for their masterââ¬â¢s degrees and even proceed to the doctoral programs and get as much as five, six, or even ten times higher salaries afterwards. So is life fair in the United States? The picture becomes slightly different when one visits the third world countries. Because college education is comparatively cheaper in such countries, many of the high school graduates could afford to go to college and in fact do so. Unfortunately for them, jobs are not available even to college graduates. Some of the more fortunate find their way to developed countries like the United States and land good-paying jobs. The rest, however, have no other option but to stay at home and basically work for loose change, become underemployed, or even join the ranks of the unemployed despite their diplomas. In such countries, it is usual to find college graduates working as busboys in restaurants, crews in supermarkets, and taxi drivers. Is life, then, fair?

Same-Sex Marriage Should Be Legal Essay - 903 Words
The state cannot demean their existence or control their destiny by making their private sexual conduct a crime -Kennedy (Dockterman). By denying homosexuals the right to come out and marry their partners wont make them or their choice change. People all around the world have their own opinions about gay rights, but people are people no matter their race, skin color, or gender and they should have the same rights as normal couples. Past and Present of Civil Relations - 1931 Words
Civic Relations: Past and Present Introduction In his book, Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle presents five main components that encapsulate civic relationships: happiness, virtues, deliberation, justice and friendship. Aristotle introduces the concept of utilitarianism, which is key to the thoughts and ideas he portrays in Nicomachean Ethics because according to him, one must do whatever will bring the individual the greatest good. As human beings, we must focus on the good purpose-- on the end product of what we set our minds to. This is where the five components of civic relationships come in; each one plays a key role in order to solve this equation of seeking the greatest good. In this case, we will analyze, compare and contrast exactly what the greatest good in civic relationships consists of and see in what ways Aristotleââ¬â¢s ideas are similar and different to the perceptions of successful, present day workplaces in the United States according to Great Place to Work Institute. Deliberation Aristotle discusses the importance of deliberation in ethics and civic relationships. Deliberation is key in order for society to decide what is right and wrong, good and bad. The ideas and opinions of people thus create particular standards for society, making things acceptable or not. Hence if the employees become more trained it will be easier to manage the cyber security issues along with arousal of the ethical issue. I have evidenced it that the employees who used to be once the ethical hackers have now turned into unethical hackers after they leave their organization. In this 21st century, the cyber security is developing at a rapid pace. There are too many challenges as well that might be because of the productivity of the business that is quite degrading. In this research, I have invested a lot of time in understanding how to maintain the security of their information and business data. The factors that are the leading threats and challenges has also been explained. Some of the factors like the lack of the collaboration and leadership, knowledge and laws about the cybercrime are all set ups for an effective control in the business security process. Learning plan My primary research questions deal with: What are the major cyber security challenges in the business? My secondary question deals with: How the cyber security challenges can be mitigated? In this research methodology, I have used approaches and methods that is quite relevant to the given topic. I have used the mixed method that includes both the qualitative and the quantitative data in using and collecting it. This data has helped me in gathering the answers of the questions in this research process. The qualitative data is based on the gatherings of the opinions of the people and their secondary resources that is a quantitative data. I have collected the primary and the secondary data from the different sources. I have collected the primary data through a questionnaire survey of 10 people who works in an IT firm and were asked about the safety and the cyber security measures in their organization. In case of the secondary data, I have collected this from the journals, books and the web sources. I have gathered a sample from a size of 10 respondents. I have saved strong passwords so that none can modify and misuse the collected data and keep it as confidential. The only limitations that was faced by me while conducting this research is the shortage of the time provided. The time was so shortly provided that the data could not be analyzed and collected in a proper way. I have created a time schedule or an action plan so that the research can be easily completed within the time period provided. I have provided the Grantt chart that is based on the geographical representation of the action plan of the research so that it may be competed at a perfect time. Conclusion In todays world, the cyber security is an essential part of the business that is used to maintain the secrecy and the privacy of the data and I have realized that it is an integral part of the competition in the industry. The challenges that I have faced in securing the data is the shortage of time. The other different challenges that can be used to mitigate the process of security is through proper training of the employees. The main aim is to focus on the integration of the data and adoption of the measures that will help in the security challenges. Lifestyles Comparising Essays - Lifestyle, Personal Life
Lifestyles Comparising There is always a tendency to compare our person lifestyle to that of many years ago. Introduction: Education ? In past, students face less pressure from teachers and parents. ? Today, students are much pressurized to perform I) Community Living in village ? In past, community living in village was more attractive and successful and standard of living was low. ? Today, people are suspicious of their neighbors and it is common to see closed doors in most high-rise flats. II) Advance Technology ? In past, there were no computers. ? Today, we have laptops or notebooks; we can carry it everywhere III) Telecommunications ? In past, we have to travel a lot from one place to another to convey a simple message ? Today, world is very small we can make calls wherever we like. Conclusion: Thus, lifestyle and society of today and that in the past have their own positive and negative issues. There is always a tendency to compare our person lifestyle to that of many years ago. To a certain extent, things were much better in earlier times. Firstly, in the aspect of education, students faced less pressure from teachers and parents. Expectations of these people were often realistic and achievable and this helped to be relaxed and cool as individuals. Today, students are much pressurized to perform well in school to meet to the expectations of their teacher and parents. This is reflected by the numerous tuition sessions and additional lessons they have to attend the more often than not, the academic aspect overrides the importance of social and emotional development. Secondly, community living in village was more attractive and successful in the past; people were drawn together naturally despite their religion or race. They were spontaneous in helping one another. Today, people are suspicious of their neighbors and it is common to see closed doors in most high-rise flats. There is no communications among neighbors in some cases. Thirdly, the purchasing power of a consumer is higher. In the past, standard of living was very low, where as, consumer goods were cheap. Today, a consumer needs to possess more money to purchase basic necessities of life. Of course, the present time has its appeal too. Firstly, with the impressive advance in technology, our life is made more comfortable. The computer system enables one to edit a complete work repeatedly and serves various functions as well. Information can be saved in files and easily retrieved if desired. Even the computers of today are more portable and compact in their designs. A laptop or notebook can be carried around easily. Secondly, the telecommunications services are so advanced that there is greater accessibility to make international calls whenever we like. There is no need to travel overseas to make personal visits when important messages need to be conveyed. Another important positive trail of today's society is the improvement in public transport. With the invention of MRT's, road reduction, noise and air pollution are reduced. With the present increasing focus on environment issues, this is an essential step taken by us. Thus, the lifestyle and society of today and that in the past have their own positive and negative issues. It is important for one to remain objective to see and appreciate the strengths of both times.
